You know the saying, "it's the small things in life that matter the most"? Well, when it comes to accessorizing our houses, that saying could not be truer! We love to add little touches that make big differences, so we thought we'd share some of our top tips on how we do that!
Greenery
Greenery is the perfect addition to a space that might just be missing a little something. Adding plants or succulents, big or small, to an empty corner or a shelf is a great way to add warmth to your room, helping you bring the outside in. And what is even better about adding greenery, is that you get that effortless pop of color, without even having to try! Also, if you aren't blessed with a green thumb - just like us - then don't be afraid to use faux foliage! This gives off the same effect, without having the maintenance of a real plant. Ideal, right?!
*Designer Tip: Beware of tacky-looking faux plants! Our favorite places for faux greenery? Check out World Market, West Elm, and of course, you can never forget Target!
Accent Pillows
If you know us, (and if you've been following our stories this week), you'll know that accent pillows are our jam! They are the perfect way to liven up your space, and give your room some character! Our faves include mud cloth and indigo shibori pillows, or on the occasion, we like to mix things up a bit by throwing in a bit of leather or sheepskin. And, what makes these small touches EVEN better, is that they don't need to break the bank! Some of our most beloved pillows are from Etsy, which is a great place to find such a wide variety of pillows! Pillows by Elissa and Danielle Oakey are two of our favorite pillow connoisseurs - follow the links to see what they've got goin' on!
Textures
The best thing about textures is that you can layer them up in any room, and create a great vibe. We love to play around with a variety of textures in each project, and we always manage to come up with something new! (The beauty of having so many fun things to play with, eh?!) We are suckers for sheepskin rugs, whether that's on the floor, layered on top of another rug, draped over the back of a chair or the end of your bed; the possibilities are endless! Our big rugs are usually an UGG purchase, (yes, UGG actually has rugs, and they are even softer than you're imagining them to be), but we can also always rely on good-old IKEA for our smaller ones!
*Designer Tip: If you live near an IKEA, we would suggest going there in person to find the best, most fluffiest sheepskins that they have!
Other small additions that add texture to a room include things like wood beads (as photographed below, purchased from Hudson Grace), baskets hung on the wall, on a desk or table, or as a cozy throw-holder on the floor, and macrame, which adds a subtle, geometric texture to your room (often purchased from trusty Etsy!)
*Designer Tip: Check out Local + Lejos for our most adored (and most asked about!) bowls, baskets, and trays. These bad boys are amazing for gallery walls, or as decorative accents throughout your home!
So, there you have it! You don't have to spend a fortune to add tons of character and warmth to your space! Any questions or comments? Let us know in the comments section below!
